Day Forty-Six
I woke up around 3:40 from a bad dream, and realized that I had made a mistake at work. I thought maybe I should go to the pool then, before it was crowded, but, of course, I wanted more sleep. I decided to lie down a little while, and, if I slept, so be it, and, if I couldn't, I would go to the gym.
I woke up from a little less bad dream, and wondered if I should get up. Probably. I wanted to be in the pool by six. When I opened my eyes and looked at the clock, it was 6:01. I hurried as fast as I could to get out of the house.
A funny thing happened last night when I was leaving the gym after weight-lifting. Some staff at the front desk, whom I had never before seen, were talking about gross things that happen in the pool area. They had no idea, so I gave them an earful. They encouraged me to come and tell the staff any and every time I saw something, while it was still happening. I don't think they realize how big of a deal it would be to exit the pool and go, dripping and fat, through the gym area in my worn out swim suit to tattle on everybody. Plus, this guy seemed more interested in these things than anyone else ever has. He INSISTED I tell someone whenever someone is coughing or spitting or sweating into the pool.
Anyway, this was still a bit on my mind when I walked into the pool area and saw that The Cougher was again in the middle lane. I thought about just going right back out to grab the staff, who, of course, was someone else, but I decided to see if she were coughing first. I slowly hung up my jacket and towel, and waited. Unlike she had before, she didn't stop at the end of her laps but kept going. I only heard her cough a little bit once. Her boyfriend saw me hesitating and misunderstood why. He invited me to share his lane, as another female swimmer was in the close lane. He was very nice to me. The Cougher kept swimming, and I was running out of extra minutes before I would only get an hour in the pool, so I went ahead and got in the close lane to walk along the wall.
The couple left within ten minutes, and the other swimmer left five minutes later. She confirmed that a lot of coughing had been going on, though. So I had the pool to myself until a regular-looking guy, but with an enormous belly, cannonballed into my lane and then swam to the far side. He actually swam, bless his heart, so I'm fine with that. The Chinese couple came in right before i got out.
I did forty laps in the sixty-one minutes I had. I'm still not losing weight, but I do feel my body toning up a bit.
I had two eggs for breakfast, a raspberry tea mid-morning, the rest of the whole wheat pasta salad for lunch (there wasn't much), and fruit for afternoon snacks. I remembered that there was a function tonight that I had to bring brownies for, so I whipped up some blond brownies quickly. These are one of my favorite desserts, and comfort food from childhood, too. And I had it in my head that I couldn't halve the recipe, which makes two pans, so I didn't. I thought it called for five eggs, but it doesn't, so I could have. I ran out of brown sugar making them--I haven't been tracking how much of that I had left. They turned out great, and looked so good. I was really tempted to have one. Especially when at one point there was just half of one sitting there, its chocolate chips looking up at me like puppy dog eyes.
But no sugar means no sugar, so I had none. I had quite a bit left over, so I put them in the freezer. I have another function I have to bring them to on Saturday, and I do not want to have to make--and resist--them again.
I did my abs. I ate only salad and real food at the get-together, and not too much of anything. I did well.
I wish my weight would go down.
I have a trip in about ten days, and I would really like to wear my new pink dress. My son sent an email today suggesting light clothing, as we will be outside a lot, and I can't think of any light clothing that would look good on me right now. We also have to walk twenty minutes to his graduation, and I would just love to be a little bit lighter, myself. We'll see what I can do in that time.
Just walking home from the church next door carrying my brownie pan tonight, I was having tendon issues in my hand, my wrists, my left forearm, my upper arms, my feet, my ankle, my knee, both hips. I don't know how I'll get through the rest of my life if things don't improve.
