Day Sixteen

I knew today would be challenging, but I was braced for it.  I had three desserts to sidestep.

I was one pound up, which was no surprise.  Fluctuation happens.

I fasted for most of the day, and kept fasting when the rest of my family had strawberry croissants.  I had a moment of "Maybe they're okay," but checked the label.  Sure enough, strawberry jam was in them with sugar as the first ingredient.  No problem.  I felt strong.

We went to dinner at my brother's house, but I had to make dinner for the kids before we left.  I had purchased a Costco cheesecake and some no-sugar-added cherry pie filling to go on top.  I had thought I could at least have some of that, but I had been forgetting about dinner at my brother's.  So, I instructed my one non-sick child on how to serve that, and left it behind.

Dinner at my brother's was good.  I had made our mother's rolls, and I had three, which probably surpassed what I should have had.  (They were small.)  I made the excuse that I had been fasting, but that is still not right.  Might qualify for overeating.  However, I did use whole wheat flour (something my mother had never done) for one-third of the flour.

When my brother served the dessert, that was the hardest part.  He had made a massive, amazing chocolate mousse cake decorated with tiny spritzes of whipped cream adorned with raspberries.  I asked him to please not serve me any, though it looked amazing.  He gave me a tiny bit of grief about that, but complied.  I could have had a raspberry, but my husband's fell on the floor, so I declined when he picked it up and offered it to me.  I explained over dessert to those close to me, including the cake chef brother, that I was off sugar for one hundred days, and that this was day sixteen.  "How's that going?" he asked.  I was glad I could say I had lost nine pounds.

My husband was so proud of me for avoiding that incredible dessert that he made me some sugar-free butterscotch pudding when we got home.  But I was full and it was late, so I am saving that for tomorrow.  The cheesecake and cherries had been left out. I asked a child to take the cheesecake to the downstairs refrigerator, and boxed up the cherries.  Maybe I'll have some of those tomorrow.
