Day Eighty-One

By two-thirty, I had awakened four times last night.  I don't know why I didn't take that as a hint to get my body to the gym, but I did something tedious and boring, and took another half sleeping pill and some cough medicine, because I had started coughing hard, and went back to sleep.  When I woke up again, it was after six-thirty, and I had to be at work early today.  I dressed and went to the gym, but I walked on a treadmill instead of anything usual.  I gradually increased my pace by 1/10th mph per minute, and jogged four minutes at the lowest speed that I used to run.  I mean, if I keep this up, I may eventually be running again.

I only had fifteen minutes for the treadmill, though, and then went back home to get ready for work.  Something is better than nothing, right?  And I got to push forward on the running a bit.

At work, a woman came into my cubicle to tell me, confidentially, it seemed, that they had had a birthday cake for a coworker yesterday, and that a piece for me was saved in the fridge.  I thanked her but reminded her that I am off sugar.  She said, "Oh, but I wanted you to know, because it was just really wonderful. . . ."  Okay, whether or not I can eat it does not depend on how wonderful it is.  I'd rather not know that.

The same woman, when she saw me come up to fill my water jug, exclaimed loudly and with seeming great surprise, "You're so bright!"  Had I been wearing fluorescent chartreuse with fluorescent pink, her exclamation would have been appropriate, but I was just wearing a red blouse and a beige skirt with red, yellow, and purple flowers on it, but the skirt was mostly beige.  Nothing was bright.  I wondered, had she never seen red before?  It seems like she gets sillier and sillier with everything she says.  Or maybe I'm just grumpy.

I felt weak at work and ate about a half hour before I was technically supposed to.  I had my two eggs, then, for lunch, a bowl of brown rice and meat and vegetables.  I remained hungry and weak feeling.  I had a handful of peanuts, a peach, and some dried pear slices for lunch.  I gave a starving woman my apple--it only seemed right.

Supper was a high-quality salmon patty and the rest of the roasted peppers.  I added one slice of Swiss cheese.  So, I have definitely not overeaten.  I hope to get a good workout in the morning and maybe see my weight down again.  That would be nice.
